Galerie Caesar
Galerie Caesar arose from the initiative and financial support of the members of the Organisation of Olomouc Creative Artists and many of their friends, in co-operation with the city of Olomouc, in 1991, when in July of that year it began its activities at its first headquarters in the building U zeleného věnce / At the Green Wreath on Dolní náměstí / Lower Square in Olomouc. Since September 1992 it has been located in the ground floor of the Olomouc Town Hall. At the same time, a coffee house was built adjacent, which provides a source of funding for the gallery’s exhibition activities. Its program is aimed at presenting contemporary art in exhibitions by famous Czech and foreign artists, and also to give space to young or unknown artists who are just starting their careers. Every exhibition is accompanied by a professionally printed catalogue with reproductions of the works featured, texts and biographical details – made free to gallery visitors. In addition to its gallery exhibitions, the gallery also runs the sculptural symposium Sloup / Column held in the pedestrian zone of Horní náměstí / Upper Square and takes place in wider cultural activities in the city (Olomouc Year of Culture, meetings, authors’ readings, theatre, etc.). The gallery prepares many exhibitions by Olomouc artists abroad, and several on-going exhibitions and projects in co-operation with the Olomouc Town Office. In all of its activities, the gallery attempts to contribute to establishing the city’s image as a culturally-advanced centre of both the region and the republic.
