Galerie3
Galerie3 is a multicentric contemporary art gallery with venues in Vienna and Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, located in Austria’s scenic South, the border triangle with Italy and Slovenia. Galerie3, since 2020 led by Lena Freimüller, represents a broad variety of artists, from fresh emerging to established Austrian and international artists. Galerie3 aims to create and host third spaces where people and art come together to inspire innovation, debate and enjoy artistic experiences and vision. Magic and wonder in art are as important to us as work that investigates and reflects contemporary challenges, crisis and conflict. Galerie3 consciously works from a “peripheral position” in Kärnten/Koroška as well as from one of Europe’s most thriving art capitals Vienna to bridge gaps as well as to promote pleasure, participation, inclusion, and exchange through contemporary art.
GALERIE3 Vienna
Galerie3 Wien at Schleifmühlgasse 3 is located in one of the city’s most im-portant art districts: Schleifmühlgasse, known as a “gallery street”, is in the immediate vicinity of the Secession, Kunsthalle Karlsplatz, Wien Museum, Museumsquartier and Naschmarkt.
In line with the galleries’ principles – accessible, reliable, connected – Galerie3 invites to 6 annual exhibitions, encounters and exchanges at the Vienna venue. In addition, Galerie3 Wien offers “more reasons to relate”, namely special events, performances as well as discourse to attract and involve a diverse audience and enhance transdisciplinary vision and collaboration.
GALERIE3 Klagenfurt
Galerie3 is one of the most vibrant actors in the contemporary art scene in Kärnten / Carinthia. Kärnten / Koroška, located in the Alpe-Adria border triangle with Italy and Slovenia, is also the cradle of great daughters such as the painter Maria Lassnig and the writers Ingeborg Bach-mann and Christine Lavant. Galerie3 Klagenfurt has been located in Europe’s oldest pedestrian zone in the heart of the Renaissance town of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee since 1996. In the historic premises the gal-lery presents 6 annual exhibitions of outstanding contemporary art, supplemented by presen-tations outside, in the gallery’s small atrium as well as at other venues as part of Galerie3flux migrating projects. A constantly changing ‘Fundus’, the ‘Wunderkammer’ of Galerie3Klagenfurt, also invited visi-tors to browse through works from the gallery’s program. The Klagenfurt venue is located on the 2nd floor, accessible by elevator or stairs. Lena Freimüller and her team offer an open at-mosphere, individual art mediation and personal advice.
More than a gallery | Flux
Art as reason to relate: Galerie3 views itself not only as a platform for the publication and sale of art, but also as a network node and hub: Since 2014, the flexible project Galerie3flux (for-merly Flux23) has expanded gallery work into public spaces, as well as towards socially in-volved projects and transdisciplinary collaborations. In >Kunst jetzt jetzt Kunst< – the Galerie3 podcast with Lena Freimüller, the focus is on the interplay between art and society. Every year, Galerie3 and its partners offer young artists with Carinthian roots a platform with the „Carinthian Art Prize for Young Artists“, thereby strengthening the exchange between the re-gional and supra-regional art scene.
A gallery with a history at the pulse of art
Founded in 1996 by Renate Freimüller, Galerie3 opened with an exhibition by Kurt Kappa Kochescheidt. Exhibitions followed with Martha Jungwirth, Martin Kippenberger, Cornelius Kolig, Daniel Spoerri, the Artists from Gugging, and many more. Today, women of all genera-tions have joined the ranks and are in the majority in the program. The presence of artists with disabilities, previously often labeled as „Art Brut“ or „Outsider Art“, in the program of Galerie3 has become a matter of course.
The experienced team of Galerie3 supports private and business clients with projects, instal-lations and object mounting.
From 2019 to 2022 the venue Galerie3Velden very close to the Lake Wörthersee offered a total of 17 solo and themed exhibitions, space for encounters with contemporary art and artistic action all year round.
