Kortil Gallery has been operating as an exhibition space of the City of Rijeka since 1997, and since 2019, it has been part of the newly established public cultural institution Croatian Cultural Centre in Sušak. Through its mission, Kortil has defined itself as “a gallery that senses and recognizes contemporary art as a means of dynamic and open communication between artistic work, artists, the Rijeka audience, and the contemporary environment, while developing as a forum that builds and deepens these relationships.” Building on its previous activities and experiences, Kortil Gallery continues to exhibit art from the 20th and 21st centuries, as it identifies its purpose in showcasing contemporary visual art production through solo, group, or thematically curated exhibition programs, without restricting itself to particular styles or aesthetics. The exhibition program is open to contemporary domestic and international artists, applied arts, the presentation of artistic personalities who have defined 20th-century art, and at the same time, to young emerging artists entering the visual art scene.
