About this artwork

I created "Allegory of War", for the inaugural Royal House of Medici - Rennaissance 3.0 exhibit and auction launching live from Miami Art Week - December 1st 2022, 12:00pm EDT. The auction lot includes NFT and Physical (both are 1/1) . The piece is inspired by Giorgio Vasari`s Allegory of Justice, commissioned by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese in 1543 to adorn his palace in Rome - the Palazzo della Cancelleria. Why Allegory of War? Because of the times we`re living in and because I believe it's an artist's job to speak out. War is not glory, it is not justice, honor or freedom. Its death and despair, fear and loss. So, I tried to put all of it in an artwork. I will try to breakdown the concept anf my thought process behind the creation of the piece. The central character, wearing armor, with his extreme expression of hatred represents the act of war and the madness that comes with it. The woman clinging to the warrior`s arm stands for all the mothers and wives trying to stop loved ones from being part of the carnage. The fallen man about to get slaughtered represents the terror war brings upon its victims. The second woman, mourning in the lower part of the image, represents the loss of our dear ones, the blindfolded victim being the symbol of all the civilians having their lives taken from them in a blink of an eye. The sister in the black robe is the faith we all turn to during our darkest hour while the youngling in her arms symbolizes the trauma of the orphans that war creates. The background of the artwork is an interpretation of the one painted by Leonardo DaVinci for his Mona Lisa portrait, as my humble tribute to the Renaissance masters and their art.
