 • Advanced Course in Visual Arts at AR.CO - Center for Art and Visual Communication - Lisbon. *

He lives and works in Almada. At the beginning of his activity as a visual artist, with the support of the Professor of visual arts and sculptor António Júlio, he is co-author of the “Nucleus of Visual Arts of Laranjeiro” (NAP) whose thematic approach was centred on the artistic abilities of each of its elements resulting in a series of very interesting and “catapulting” exhibitions for what is currently his work.

Following long days of education and work with the Sculptor António Júlio, the invitation for an artistic residency, lasting one year, appears in his atelier in the municipality of Almada, with the definite objective of developing a painting project and its direct relationship with sculpture.

During 2014 he worked as an assistant curator at the MAC Movimento Arte Contemporânea gallery, thereby enriching his experience and knowledge in this market and using that experience in the creation of pieces that would result in the exhibition “Mind the Gap” at the MAC sol ao Rato gallery.

His work focuses on the observation and analysis of human relationships between the individual and the society that surrounds him, addressing themes that normally start from his personal experience, with the aim of mirroring and glueing to each of the observers who devote some observation time to his work. The way we balance ourselves with others, what some are capable of and others not able to achieve their goals are some of the points he lists as constant in his artistic narrative.

Paulo Canilhas also states that he is unable to work on an isolated piece, always preferring to work in multiples that later give rise to collections with very strong graphic and aesthetic relationships between them.

• Represented in private and institutional collections, nationally and internationally.
* Scholarship by SILOGIA - Workplace Solutions
